Youngstown State University will rework bid specifications and advertise for bids again, after the first bids for the Porter and Mary Pollock House restoration project were over-budget.

STOP AHEAD: Anna McCollums of Hillsville, Pa., uses a flag to stop a truck entering the Carbon Limestone Landfill operated by Republic Services. She and a group of concerned citizens are using flags to make trucks leaving and entering the facility stop at the stop signs.

Special to The Vindicator MAKING A CHANGE: Students at St. Patrick School have been doing their part to support research for a cure for cancer. The children deposited loose change in buckets that had been placed in each classroom. As a result, more than $400 was collected for the American Cancer Society. Displaying one of the buckets are members of Mrs. Yambovich’s fourth-grade class, from left, Samantha Rosser, Guy-Michel Kaho and Daniel Robinson, who shared the spirit of giving.

Special to The Vindicator INFORMATIVE: An informative talk on the political climate in the Mahoning Valley and an insightful discussion of the upcoming census-taking was presented by Bertram de Souza, editorial writer for The Vindicator, at the January meeting of Austintown Friends of the Library. Joining de Souza following his remarks were Dorothy Fizet and Doug Wilcox, leaders of the Friends. Speaking at the 10 a.m. Feb. 8 meeting of the Friends will be Christopher Barzak, Youngstown State University instructor.
