FOCUS ON CHILDREN: The latest undertaking for Warren Lions Club is the Kyrgyzstan Project, an effort to help students with vision problems in a remote village in Kyrgyzstan. The project was initiated when Atty. Elliott Legow mentioned to Dr. Richard Shapiro, retired ophthalmologist, that his son Ben Legow, a Peace Corps volunteer and teacher, was concerned about his students’ vision problems. At the suggestion of Dr. Shapiro, the Lions accepted the challenge of providing a solution. As a result, three frame companies agreed to donate 150 frames, Central Optical of Youngstown offered to fill the prescriptions, and RD Optical Company is coordinating the process. The glasses and fitting instructions will be sent to Ben Legow to give to the students. Any expenses involved in the project will be underwritten by the Lions. Awaiting the arrival of the glasses with Ben Legow are some of his students who will benefit from the endeavor.
