Spreading good, old-fashioned cheer: On Dec. 12 members of the Junior Division of the Golden Rose Queen of Ireland LAOH of Mahoning County presented Christmas shows and took homemade cookies to residents at two nursing homes as a service project. First, the juniors performed at noon at Assumption Village, where they gathered by the Christmas tree, above, for a group picture. They also sang all the favorite Christmas songs, followed by an exhibition of Irish Dance by students of the Theresa Burke School of Irish Dance. At 2 p.m. the juniors presented the program and cookies to residents at the Inn at Christine Valley, where Shamus Kerrigan, grandfather of juniors Vice President Christine Kerrigan, is a resident. Christine qualified in the Midwest Oireachtas to compete in the World Irish Dance Championships in Dublin, Ireland, in 2011.
