Focus on the center: At the August meeting of Austintown Growth Foundation, Bill Adams, chairman of Citizens for Betterment of Austintown, at left, provided basic information about the new Austintown Senior Center that will open Sept 1. Situated at 100 Westchester Drive, in a township-owned building, the center will begin serving meals three days a week to 52 Mahoning County residents 60 years of age or older who make reservations with Celtic Healthcare at 330-884-2500. He said the facility will hopefully be able to add crafts, card playing and field trips to the program in the near future. Free transportation will be offered. The project is federally funded but donations are encouraged. Joining Adams is David Ditzler, president of Austintown Growth Foundation.

Fifty children attended the two-day event that gave them tips for calling emergency services, riding the bus and navigating the playground.
