Rotarians recognized: This year, six Austintown Rotary members achieved status as Paul Harris fellows, and they received awards and pins from Brian Laraway, Rotary Foundation chairman and past president of Austintown Rotary. The six are, from left to right, Brian Frederick, Susan Leetch, Ron Carroll, Laraway, Tony Cebriak, and Dr. Mike Cafaro. The Rotary Foundation challenges each member to donate a suggested $100 annually to help fund humanitarian projects. Once a member contributes $1,000, he or she is designated as a Paul Harris Fellow, honoring the founder of Rotary, which was begun in 1905. The Austintown club is striving for 100 percent of its membership to achieve the distinction.

Nearly 100 descendants of Emidio and Alice Cerimele gathered on July 31 at Fair Park in Canfield for a 50th annual family reunion. Hosting the event were Anne Marie Vujcec, Lynne and Mike Mullins, Carol and Rick Bueno, John and Cyndi Vujcec and Donna and Dan Cornelius. Commemorative T-shirts were made to celebrate the occasion. In addition to a dinner, members of the clan participated in games, and there were relays, water balloons, a piñata, a 50-50 raffle, and an “Italian” auction. A golden theme was used for prizes and decorations, and golden eggs were used for the traditional egg toss. Providing support for sports: Members of the Western Reserve High School Lady Blue Devils Junior Varsity and Varsity softball teams happily flash their winning smiles after participating in a successful Service Learning Project during the 2010 softball season. The girls had been asked to collect or donate items for a worthy cause. Under the guidance of their coaches, Laura Amero, Stephanie Wallace, Gene Bogden and Mary McCabe, the girls collected more than 45 pieces of gently used or new sporting equipment. The usable equipment has been given to the Youngstown Police Athletic League to support its mentoring program. The program offers baseball, basketball and kickball to area children, and promotes good sportsmanship, grades and citizenship.

He has 19 more clubs to visit. Russell told how he became involved in Rotary and presented a video, “Engaging With Rotary,” that showed how each member moves within the 33,000 clubs worldwide. He asked members to work on meaningful projects, to build memberships, to support the Rotary Foundation and to support the worldwide distribution of lit kits. When she joined Russell after his talk, Susan Leetch, club president, presented the speaker with a gift and a book to be donated in his name to Woodside Library.
