Follow the leader: Hubbard Optimist Club conducted an annual safety program in March at Roosevelt Elementary School where, from left, Hubbard Township Police Chief Todd Coonce and Hubbard City Police Chief Marty Kanetsky taught the youngsters the proper hand signals to use when riding their bikes. Every second-grader at the school received a free bike helmet. When stopped by a policeman, each biker wearing a helmet will get a ticket — for a Dairy Queen treat.

The great taste: Wines to be available for sampling at the 5th annual wine taste sponsored by Austintown Optimist Club from 7 to 10 p.m. April 23 at the Saxon Club, 710 S. No place like home: Although they now live in Ellenton, Fla., Tee and Trish Ross, formerly of Struthers, show they are still Penguin fans by displaying a centerpiece from their table at the annual Youngstown Alumni Day in Sarasota, Fla. Their recent book, “It’s a Great Life at Any Age,” was featured at the luncheon, where Dr. David Sweet presented a summary of his 10 years as president at Youngstown State University.

Trumbull County Federation The constitution and bylaws of Trumbull County Federation of Women’s Clubs, which was organized Oct. 24, 1920, were updated during a meeting of the officers at Panera Bread on Elm Road. Participating in the revision were, from left seated, Anne Schweinfurth, trustee, and Hattie Hawkins, president, and standing, Shelby McElravy, vice president, Sally Bidiack, treasurer; Eddie Wolcott, trustee; Sandy Young, corresponding secretary; and Myrdis Ledbetter, recording secretary. The club will meet May 20 at McMenamy’s for a presentation by Debra Wagner, who will portray a lady from 1890.

All decked out: Warren Republican Women’s Club has all the decks out and is ready to host a card party from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. N.E., Warren. Tickets, $7, include lunch and can be purchased for any member of at the door. Proceeds will be used to sponsor a high school girl or girls to Girl’s State this summer.
