Tom Jacobs, center, and Joe Gleydura, Hubbard Township trustees, unveil the award-winning design of Tori Sylvester, left, daughter of Tony and Laura Sylvester of Doris Drive, Hubbard, that the township will use on flags. Flags will go to major businesses in the township as a way to thank them for investing in the community. One will fly at the township building.

Tori Sylvester, a sophomore at Hubbard High School, shows off her winning entry in a flag-design contest sponsored by Hubbard Township. She was recognized at a trustees meeting this week. Tori used an eagle prominently in the design because it’s the mascot of the school’s athletic teams.

The women hope senior leadership, provided by Haralambopoulos, Volkova and Welch, will help the Penguins to succeed in the Horizon League tournament later this month. The Penguins (6-12) have played all of their Horizon League foes already this season, and hope that experience can give them an edge in the tournament.

The Vindicator: Plain or blueberry pancakes will be available at the annual Rotary Club of Canfield breakfast from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Canfield High School, 100 Cardinal Drive. Making sure everyone knows they are selling tickets for the breakfast are, from left, Jim Strock, chair of the event, and Sieglinde Warren, club president. Tickets are $6 per person; children under 2 eat free. Proceeds will finance Rotary’s community service projects.
