A HAPPY SITE: Joe Kaluza comes to Ivanhoe Avenue to see the site for his new home. Ground was broken Wednesday for the house, which will be disabled-accessible. Kaluza, the former manager at a KFC restaurant on South Avenue, was shot by a robber in March 2008 while he was leaving the store to make a bank deposit. The shooting left him a quadriplegic. Volunteers are building the house.

The project was designed and built by Shawn Stolworthy of MazePlay in Firth, Idaho, who came here to cut the corn that makes the maze. BIG HAUL: Trumbull County Sheriff Thomas Altiere stands near a table full of drugs, cash, a bulletproof vest and ammunition that were recovered from a house at 2026 W. Market St. in Warren during a raid Tuesday afternoon. Fourteen people were arrested at the house on drug charges, 11 of whom will be arraigned today in Warren Municipal Court. The lead investigative agency was the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force, which is headed by Lt. Jeff Orr of the sheriff’s department.

Ben, a Golden Retriever, belonging to Rebecca Onuska, of Youngstown, emerges from the pool with a toy during the Pooch Pentathalon at the Davis Family YMCA in Boardman on Sunday afternoon. Ben suffers from severe bilateral hip dysplasia and Onuska was originally told he wouldn't be able to walk by the age of two without surgery. Instead, Onuska decided to pursue wholistic methods utilizing an underwater treadmill, adequan (injectable glucosomine), and keeping active. Now at the age of four Ben is active both in and out of the water, competing in obedience and acting as a therapy dog.
