Erica Shirilla, age 10, and her mother, Andrea Shirilla, both of Boardman, put the final pieces of tape on Dolly, a scarecrow named for her resemblence to the country singer Dolly Parton, that overlooks their garden plot at the Mill Creek MetroPark Farm in Canfield on Wednesday morning. Erica, who attends the children's gardening program every Wednesday has also talked her parents into allowing her to have a garden at home. "I'm independent," says Erica whose favorite vegetable to grow is onions because she likes them in salsa, "I've never been to a place where you can have your own garden and you can do it all yourself." "Every Wednesday, I get to harvest and get food," says Erica, "Its fun."
