HOLDING ON: Ruby Yates, 85, has lived in the same Idora neighborhood on Youngstown’s South Side for almost 40 years. While the neighborhood used to be a gem of the Mahoning Valley, the area has regressed, she said. In recent years, however, some positive change has occurred, she says.

BUNDLED UP: A number of hardy residents and social-service-agency leaders walked in the cold to raise awareness about area homeless people and the Mahoning County Cold Weather Emergency Shelter Program.
