Special to The Vindicator ORTHODOX CELEBRATION: The sixth annual pageant for Velija/Holy Supper will showcase the Christmas Eve customs and traditions of the Carpatho-Rusyn people. The event will take place at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church Social Hall, 2053 North Road in Warren. This year’s festivity, which begins at 4 p.m. today, will be highlighted by the Carpatho-Rusyn Society members and will include a dinner consisting of 12 traditional foods. During the festivities at Velija, St. Nicholas will give out golden coins. Ethnic items will for sale, and the singing of Christmas carols will round out the event. Many door prizes will be drawn, and entertainment will be provided by the Balalaika Ensemble from St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Mogadore. For more information, visit www.c-rs.org. WRAPPERS: Wrapping presents at the Family Practice Center at Northside Medical Center are employees Kathi Wyllie, left, and Dorothy Andrews, R.N. This year, the center has early presents for pediatric patients. The ones who have an office visit to be immunized any time in December will receive a new toy that was generously donated by either an NMC employee, physician, day care provider or church. Nearly 200 toys were donated. “The Family Practice Center came up with the idea based on low immunization rates in Ohio,” said Lisa Weiss, M.D., director of the center. Special to The Vindicator
