Joyce Brooks of Canfield, center, was awarded a honorary doctor degree in humane letters at YSU's summer commencement Aug. 15. During her address to the graduates, she thanked two very special educators who played a role in her career choices. Mrs. Mary Kay D'Isa of Boardman, left, was Brooks' 6th grade teacher and inspired her to become a teacher, and Dr. Pietro Pascale of Pulaski, Pa., her research, statistics and grant writing mentor, was responsible for her choice to enroll in post-graduate studies to become an administrator.
