DEATH ROW PLEA: Richard Wade Cooey II is on death row in the Ohio State Penitentiary for the killings of two University of Akron students in 1982. In an interview this week, he denied killing anyone. Cooey is challenging his execution in federal in federal court on the basis of his obesity.

GREAT BREW: Richard Tomory has amassed an extensive collection of medals and awards for his home-brewed beer, mead and cider. The 1966 Campbell Memorial graduate, now 60, took up the hobby as a young man and was a charter member of the Great Northern home Brewers Club in Alaska, where he lived 31 years.

Rick Plant stands under the storm damaged tree that has a 50 yard stretch of Churchill Street, near Belmont in Liberty, closed to traffic. A better road block is needed, Plant said. "The cones take people by surprise." Two different accidents have occurred during 12 hours the road block has been in place. "It's not doing much for safety," Plant Said.
