The Struthers Rotary has announced the names of the winners of its 2012 Struthers High School $500 scholarships. Rotary scholarships are awarded on the basis of participation in activities and organizations that serve the community by helping others. The group also presented the $500 2012 William Comstock Scholarship, given in the name of a former Struthers High School teacher and member of the Board of Education and Rotary. Rotarian Tom Baringer, scholarship chairman, stands with scholarship recipients, from left, Samantha Basista, Ellie Bodnar, Katie Jordan and Leighan Wells. Jordan is the winner of this year’s William Comstock Scholarship.

Roselyn Gadd, right, of Girard Junior Women, presents a scholarship to Sahara Stauffer of Girard High School. The organization is dedicated to raising money for the Girard community, and student scholarships are a priority on the project list. The group also recently donated to the Emmanuel Center and has plans to plant flowers in downtown Girard. New members are welcome. For information visit the Girard Junior Women Facebook page.

The Trumbull County Beekeepers Association has donated $50 to the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library for the purchase of materials concerning bees for the circulating collection. Jan Vaughn, assistant library director, left, displays the bee hand puppet and four children’s books that the gift provided for the library system. Alan Harper, president of the Kiwanis Club of Youngstown, presents Max Lee, winner of The Vindicator Regional Spelling Bee, and Tamsin Day, runner-up, with gift certificates to Barnes & Noble. The students were honored at the club’s weekly luncheon meeting in honor of their spelling achievements. Max is a seventh-grader at Canfield Middle School, and Tamsin is in seventh grade at Willow Creek Leaning Center.
