NEW CASTLE, PA. - Rev. Photios Frank Tomarakos, 84, of 14 W. Hazelcroft Ave., passed away the afternoon of July 19, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Rev. Tomarakos was born Nov. 27, 1933, in Nymphasia, Greece, to the late Petros and Maria Rebestekos Tomarakos.
He was married for 50 years to the former Arite J. Vomvoris. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2013.
Rev. Photios was the Priest for St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New Castle for over 35 years. He devoted his life to the church and his family, especially his grandchildren.
Rev. Tomarakos graduated from Roslindale High School in Boston, class of 1955. He later graduated from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Seminary in 1963.
Rev. Photios enjoyed gardening, and grafting fruit trees at his home and doing yard work. He also enjoyed painting around his home.
Survivors include his children; daughter, Maria (Alex) Katsaras of Mentor; sons, Peter P. Tomarakos of Nashville, Tenn., and John P. (Debbie) Tomarakos of Boston; brothers Dino (Maria) Thomas and Triando (Dina) Thomas, both of Boston; sisters, Asimo (Costa) Belezos and Georgia (Demetrios), both of Boston; and eight grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Arite, he was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Thomas.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2018, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church 315 W. Englewood Ave., New Castle, PA 16105. A Trisagion service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
Tuesday morning, Orthos will be performed at 8:15 a.m., with a Divine Liturgy to follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Metropolitan SAVAS of Pittsburgh will be presiding along with other area priests. The committal service and burial will take place in Campbell, at the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Cemetery. A procession will leave immediately following the Divine Liturgy.
