YOUNGSTOWN - A funeral service celebrating the life and legacy of Mrs. Lorraine Thompson Spencer, 86, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Metro Assembly of God. Mrs. Spencer was called home to be with our Lord on Sept. 11, 2017, surrounded her by her loving family.
Lorraine was born April 11, 1931, in Pulaski, Ill., a daughter of Willie and Loveader Thompson, coming to the valley many years ago.
She was a devoted homemaker and wife who dedicated her time to raising her children and caring for her home. She was a self-taught pianist and was an active member of the Gospel Baptist Church until her health prevented her from attending.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children, Gregory (Anna) Walker of Struthers, Ronald (Michelle) Walker of Youngstown, John Robert (Christina) Spencer of Struthers and Alitha Spencer, with whom she made her home; her brother, Franklin (Donna) Thompson of San Francisco; her sisters, Lucille Ellis and Jessie Maxwell Peterson, both of Youngstown; 34 grandchildren, including Ronald Cash, whom she reared; 48 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; seven great-great great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
She was greeted in heaven by her parents; her brother, James Thompson; her sisters, Helen Miles and Omar Bailey; her sons, Roosevelt Juney, Lawrence Larry, Michael Micky, and Joseph Peanut Walker; and her granddaughter, Sherry Walker.
The family will receive friends Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Washington Funeral Home.
