YOUNGSTOWN Memorial services for Mr. Howard B. Garrett, 78, will be held on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 827 Wilson Ave.
Mr. Garrett was born July 9, 1939, in Talladega, Ala., a son of Zack and Bessie Lee Terrell Garrett.
He was a 1958 graduate of East High School, and had been employed with Commercial Inertech, retiring after over 30 years of service. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and its male chorus, where he was also a bass guitar player. He was a self-taught musician and enjoyed teaching others to play. He was musically talented and also played the keyboard. In his younger years, he played and sang with several bands.
Howard was an avid fisherman, enjoyed art, playing dominoes, and watching the Cleveland Browns. His passion was being with family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his beloved memories, his daughter, Catasha L. Garrett; his sister, Christine Edmondson; and grandson Vernest Hildreth, all of Youngstown; four generations of nieces and nephews; and a host of other family, church family and friends.
Besides his father, Zack; and mother and stepfather Bessie and Thomas Woods, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Renard, Willie K., John E., and Joe L.; and seven sisters, Annie, Edna, Mildred, Flora, Bessie, Salonia and Karann.
