YOUNGSTOWN Lillie Mae Thornton, 89, passed away on Feb. 20, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, with her family at her side.
She was born on Jan. 15, 1928, in Sumter, S.C., to Henry and Sudie Fortune (Weston).
She was a member of the former St. James A.M.E. Church, which was merged with the Gibson Heights Second Presbyterian Church in Youngstown.
She loved spending time with family and friends, playing cards, singing in the church choir, traveling, going to New York City and shopping.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Vera Carroll of Warren and Cynthia Johnson of Youngstown; and her grandson, Thomas Mars of Youngstown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her late husband, Mars Dutley Thornton; her son-in-law, Robert E. Carroll; and her sister, Grace R. Page.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Gibson Heights Second Presbyterian Church, 755 E. Dewey Ave. in Youngstown.
Friends may call one hour prior to the time of service.
A private interment will be at the Tod Homestead Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the directors at the Matthew W. Conley Funeral Home.
