BOARDMAN - Alice M. Sheffield, passed away on May 29, 2015.
Mrs. Sheffield was born on Feb. 22, 1924, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude Poppineau Welsh.
She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where she served terms as secretary on both the board of stewards and the church council. She was a 1942 graduate of South High School. During World War II, at the age of 19, she was one of the youngest full-time volunteers with the American Red Cross, serving as a nurses aide at the old Southside Hospital. She was an avid reader and loved working crossword puzzles and gardening.
Her husband, Loring M. Sheffield, whom she married Nov. 14, 1959, passed away Dec. 4, 2001. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles M. Welsh and Ben Welsh.
She is survived by one brother, T. Gordon Welsh of Boardman; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Welsh of Boardman; several nieces and nephews; and one stepdaughter-in-law, Lana Marriotti.
There will not be any calling hours. There will be a memorial service at the Calvary Baptist Church, 1463 Shields Road, at a later date.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Beeghley Oaks Nursing Home for the care that Alice received, especially to Alice and Barb.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the memorial fund of the church or the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.

NILES - Mike Pitinii passed away on June 4, 2015, the 65th anniversary of his marriage to his beloved wife, Betty Martin Pitinii.
Mike was born on Aug. 23, 1924, in Warren, to Angeline and James Pitinii.
Graduating from Warren Harding High School, he was a member of the National Honor Society and choir, where began his lifelong love affair with great music. He also graduated from Youngstown State University, where he majored in History and Philosophy, his twin passions. He enlisted in World War II and was trained in radar, serving in the 579th Signal Army Air Corps in the South Pacific.
Mike returned from the war to find the love of his life, Betty Martin, who would become his life partner for 60 years. They were the first couple to be married at the newly built St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church on June 4, 1950. They, with their seven children, worked at their family business, The Niles Laundry, for over 40 years.
Mike always said that big families are for professionals, and he and Betty were masters. He filled our hearts with great music, from Beethoven to Ella Fitzgerald. He read to us, great literature, from Walt Whitman, his kindred spirit, to tales of space and time travel. Mike and Betty enjoyed traveling, especially to Greece, California and North Port, Mich. He was devoted to his family who will forever hold him near in our hearts.
Mikes wife, Betty, preceded him in death in 2011.
They leave their seven grateful children, 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Angela Pitinii; Sunday Pitinii; Diana (Don) Bolger and children Martin and Anya; Jim (Mary) Pitinii and daughters Lukea and Nicolette; Cynthia (Rod) Roessler and daughters Heather (Chris and children Anna and Joey) DiGregorio and Caroline; Linda (Murray) Davis and daughters Allison, Marla (Will) Klatt, Suzanne and Laura; and Anna Marie (Matt) Hood and children Alfred, Elena and Michael.
Mike had two sisters, Elizabeth and Clara; and a younger brother, Nick, all of whom preceded him in death.
We release him, only because God wanted him more, to the universe.
Family and friends may call Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. with a Trisgaion service at 5:30 p.m., and Monday from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren.
Service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, with Fr. Constantine Valantasis officiating.
Entombment will be at Pineview Cemetery, with full military honors.

CANFIELD - Josephine Hrina, 86, formerly of Youngstowns west side, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully late Thursday morning, June 4, 2015, at her home, surrounded by her family following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers.
Josephine was born Sept. 8, 1928, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Andrew and Anastasia Horak Kitt, and was a lifelong area resident. She was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage and shared her traditions and her ethnic cooking with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Hrina was a homemaker and also worked at Republic Steel / LTV in housekeeping from 1972 to 1993.
Josephine was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Youngstown.
She enjoyed visiting Mountaineer Park, Atlantic City, and Las Vegas to play the slots. Josephine would often walk to the lottery store to visit and talk with her friends.
Her husband, George Hooksie Hrina, whom she married July 10, 1948, passed away Nov. 6, 1993.
Josephine enjoyed her family very much, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Sharon Hrina, with whom she made her home, Linda Wibly (Tamp) of Boardman, Robert Hrina (Lori) of Canfield, and Gloria (Eric) Allshouse of Canfield; six grandchildren, who lovingly called her Baba, and who she helped raise during their preschool years, Jennifer (Carl) Farina, Timothy (Patricia) Hrina, Tamplin (Ashley) Wibly, Christopher Allshouse (fiancé Meaghan), Shayna (Tim) Bell, and Kacie Hrina; five great-grandchildren, Carl and Isabella Farina, Camryn and Jack Hrina, and Peyton Wibly; and many nieces and nephews, who affectionately called her Dodo.
Josephine will always be remembered by her family for her love and commitment to them. She will be truly and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Pappagallo-Zone and Ann Varone, and four brothers, Peter Kitt (MIA in the Korean War), and John, Michael, and Stephen Kitt.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a Panachida will take place at 3:30 p.m.
Funeral services will begin on Monday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, and continue at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church on South Belle Vista Avenue.
Interment will follow at the parish cemetery, where Josephine will be laid to rest next to her husband.
Josephines family thanks the staff with MVI Hospice, and the many personal caregivers that provided many years of gentle, loving care and support to her in the very long journey on her way home. Jamie, Amy, Carrie, Mary, and most recently, during the final stages of Josephines illness, Stephanie, Patty, and Jane, who was with her at the time of her passing. Extra special thanks to Susan, who kept Josephines hair colored and beautiful, per her wishes; to Sr. Bernarda, who brought beautiful thoughts, prayers, and songs to Mrs. Hrina during her regular visits; and to Fr. Richard Lambert, who delivered prayers, blessings, and comfort.

YOUNGSTOWN - Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 8, at 10 a.m., at St. Christine Church, for Thomas M. Rusback, 71, who passed away on Thursday, June 4.
He was born June 27, 1943, in Struthers, son of Joseph Rusbacky and Helen Granchay.
He worked as a finance manager in the automotive industry, he was a custodial supervisor at the Mahoning County Court House, and was co-founder of Ala Cart Catering in Canfield. Thomas belonged to St. Christine Church and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was an usher and was active in various organizations at St. Christine, including the Mens Renewal.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy Hogue Scott Rusback, whom he married Jan. 31, 1987; three sons, Tom (Michelle) Rusback of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Eric (Wendy) Rusback of Austintown and Kevyn (Katie) Scott of Columbus. He also leaves a sister, Carolyn (Jim) Tomochek of Boardman; and four grandchildren, Kayleigh, Maddie, Bridget and Erin.
Friends will be received Sunday, June 7, from 2 to 6 p.m., with a Cursillo Bible Vigil Movement at 6 p.m., and also Monday, June 8, from 9:30 to 10 a.m., at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home Inc., Youngstown.

YOUNGSTOWN - A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, at the Itts Memorial Chapel, El Emeth Granada Cemetery for Sala Sally Gold Friedman, 102, who passed away at Heritage Manor on Thursday evening.
Sala was born to Abraham and Bracha Grossman in Lodz, Poland. She survived the Holocaust and moved to the United States from Sweden in 1954. She proudly became a U.S. citizen.
She was a member of El Emeth and the El Emeth Sisterhood. She also enjoyed her membership at the Jewish Community Center.
She is survived by three daughters, Brita Weisenberg and husband Sy, Golda Radefeld and husband Larry, and Lee Friedman; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Sala was preceded in death by husbands Rafael Gold and David Friedman.
Friends may call one half-hour prior to services in the cemetery chapel.

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP - Frank P. Cvetkovic, 95, passed away early Thursday morning, June 4, 2015, at his home, following a long and fulfilling life.
Frank was born Nov. 29, 1919, in Youngstown, a son of the late John and Helen Magasith Cvetkovic, and was a lifelong area resident.
Frank was a United States Army veteran of World War II, where he served with the Division Quartermaster in charge of Army supplies. Prior to his military service, he worked as a teen with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Yellowstone National Park.
Mr. Cvetkovic retired from his own business, Liberty Permit Service, at the age of 62, where he helped the trucking companies keep oversize vehicles legal for travel. Frank also worked as an over-the-road truck driver, worked in the marble contracting business, and he worked for Railway Express.
His favorite hobbies were golfing, following the Cleveland Indians, and attending YSU tailgate parties and football games.
His beloved wife, Guerrina Guerra Cvetkovic, his Italian war bride, whom he married in 1946 after the war, passed away Jan. 27, 1999.
Frank leaves two sons, Gregory F. (Nikki) Cvetkovic of Austintown and Frank G. (Judy) Cvetkovic of Liberty Township; three grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Jim (Chrissy) Cvetkovic of Canfield, Matt (Nikki) Cvetkovic of Amherst, and Adreinne (Jake) Figelman of Twinsburg; five great-grandchildren, whom he also loved dearly, Andrew, Ally, Jillian, Evan and Reagan; and a sister, Veronica Grossi of Rootstown.
Besides his wife, four brothers, Steve, John, Joe, and George Cvetkovic, and a sister, Ann Vernosky, are deceased.
Family and friends may call from noon to 2 p.m., Monday, June 8, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 North Meridian Road, Youngstown, where funeral services will take place at 2 p.m.
Committal services with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

She was born Dec. 13, 1929, in Youngstown, daughter of Walter and Katherine (Potuczko) Czopur.
Margaret graduated from South High School in 1948. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and loved baking kolachi.
Margaret met her husband, Robert Bigley, in 1947, in Coitsville at a dance hall. They loved dancing and listening to Polka music. They married on Nov. 13, 1948.
Surviving are five daughters, Cindy Miller of Youngstown, Diane Bevan of Youngstown, Bobbie Bigley of Lordstown, Nancy Bigley of Austintown and Lori Merlino of Windsor, Ohio; two sisters, Mary Bralish and Helen Crish of Youngstown; two sisters-in-law, Ann Marie Czopur and Dorothy Rusnak; five grandchildren, Doug (Andrea) Bevan, Deana (Chris) Bowman, Samanth (Jason) Flaviano, Adam (fiancé Edie) Semchee and Nicole Merlino; and two great-grandchildren, twins Sebastian and Brennan Bowman.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Edward and Frank Czopur; and three sisters, Veronica Simerlink, Viola Duritza and Josephine Adams.
Friends will be received Sunday, June 7, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home Inc., Youngstown.
