YOUNGSTOWN – The Cathedral of St. Columba will hold a Requiem Mass Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 10 a.m. for Dr. James E. Toliver, M.D., 56, who departed this life June 10.

Dr. Toliver was born Jan. 15, 1958, in St. Louis, a son of Evelyn Collier Irving and Roosevelt Irving.

Dr. Toliver graduated from St. Louis Priory High School, going on to earn his Bachelors of Science from John Hopkins University and his Doctor of Medicine from Eastern Virginia Medical School. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at St. Elizabeth’s Health Center in Youngstown.

He was a parishioner of St. Columba and a lifelong advocate of Catholic Education and the Social Gospel. Dr. Toliver served the Youngstown area’s medical needs in a variety of ways, including his own private practice, and serving as the medical director of both the Dandridge Burgundi Manor and the Youngstown Developmental Center for over 20 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, James E. F. Toliver III and Della Evelina Elizabeth Toliver of Youngstown; his father of St. Louis; a brother, Roosevelt Irving Jr.; and a sister, Clovise Irving, all of St. Louis; his former wife, Dr. Karla McNair Toliver of Youngstown; and a host of other relatives and friends.

His mother, Evelyn Collier Irving, preceded Dr. Toliver in death.

Arrangements were entrusted to L.E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home.
