SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP - Robert J. Davis, 89, of Shayside Avenue, died Saturday morning at the Saybrook Landing where he had been a patient the past two months.
He was born Jan. 24, 1925, in Girard, the son of Howard J. and Mary (Conlin) Davis, and resided there until 1950, before moving to Ashtabula.
Mr. Davis was a 1943 graduate of Girard High School. Following graduation, he served three years in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. Upon returning from the war, he entered Kent State University and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. In 1982, he retired from the Ashtabula City School District where he had taught Industrial Arts and served 10 years as an assistant principal.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy M. (Larson) Davis, whom he married on June 4, 1955, in Ashtabula; four children, Meghan (Rees) Davis of Ashtabula, Jim (Michelle) Davis of Houston, Lori (David) Bretschneider of Owensboro, Ky., and Peter (Kathy) Davis of Ashtabula; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, Richard, Jack, William, James and Walter.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1342 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Quincy Worthington officiating with a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery.
Additional calling hours will be held today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Trinity Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, at the above address or the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, OH 44004, envelopes will be at the funeral home and church.
