AUSTINTOWN Blair M. Thomas died Sept. 15, 2013, at Vista on the Ridge.
He was born Aug. 25, 1936, in Layton, Pa., where he lived his childhood until he moved to Youngstown in 1955, after graduating from Perry High School.
Blair was an ace pitcher for Perry Lower Tyrone Joint High, leading the school many times to victory in no-hitters.
Blair became a journeyman for Diamond Steel in 1958 and retired as a General Foreman in 2006. He also served in the Army Reserves from 1960 to 1966.
Blair enjoyed bowling on leagues for about 10 years and spent his last years enjoying puzzles, traveling, casinos and family.
Blair was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas and Mary (Elizabeth) Strawn Thomas; a brother, William Thomas; and two children.
He is survived by his wife, the former Sue Moore, whom he married June 24, 1983; three children from a previous marriage, Blair (Kelly) Thomas, Dan (Carol) Thomas and Pam Jennings; three stepchildren, Brian Hatton, Damon Hatton and Stacey Blanton; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Jolley of Pennsylvania.
A memorial will be held at Green Haven Chapel on Saturday Sept. 28, 2013, at 11:45 a.m.
Cremation has taken place. He will be laid to rest at Green Haven.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Whetstone Funeral Home, 611 Robbins Ave. in Niles.
