NILES Ira G. Malvasi, 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at Washington Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Born March 31, 1930, in Butler, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Marie L. (Streitman) Bowser.
Ira graduated from Mount Aloysuis Junior College.
She was the beloved mother of Dr. Mark G. Malvasi of Midlothian, Va., Martina (Malvasi) Haines (Bryan) of Slippery Rock, Pa. and Maurus (Pete) Malvasi (Denise) of Girard; dear grandmother of Benjamin J. Nicholas (Christina) Alessandra L. Nicholas, Nathan M. Nicholas, Nicholas G. Malvasi, Maura M. Malvasi and Sarah M. Malvasi; and also several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Joseph A. Malvasi.
Ira moved to the Youngstown area after school and worked first as a butcher for the A & P Grocery Store. She then worked in the steel mill and later became a Real Estate Agent for Century 21 Stauffer Realty. Most of all, she was a homemaker, mother and grandmother, who was a great reacher to her children and grandchildren. She dedicated her life to teaching and caring for them.
Ira enjoyed knitting, reading, watching movies, and playing cards on the computer. Her favorite hobby was sewing. She was an excellent seamstress. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 381 Robbins Ave. in Niles.
Inurnment will take place at St. Stephens Cemetery in Niles.
