MONROE, N.C. John Jay Marshall, 76, formerly of Austintown, went to be with the Lord early Saturday morning, Oct. 12, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 20, 1937, in Monroe, Mich., the son of the late Jay and Ruth (Oetjens) Marshall.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Combat Engineer, where he ran heavy equipment.
He was employed with Grinnel Corp. in Youngstown, and he retired in 1990 from Marshall Truck Scales, which he owned and operated.
John enjoyed bowling in various leagues, traveling and short gambling trips, but his passion was Circle Track Racing and Drag Racing, which he owned and operated various race cars throughout his life.
John is survived by his two children, Terri (Tim) Chitty of Fort Worth, Texas and Jay (Renee) Marshall of Monroe; two sisters, Carol Munson and Margorie Perry; and a brother, Tom Marshall. He is also survived by three grandsons, Montana, Maverick and Josh Chitty and a great-grandson, Brayton Chitty.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
