
WESTERVILLE John Jay Troy, 79, formerly of Sharon, Pa., passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at Select Specialty Hospital, Columbus, after open heart surgery at Cleveland Clinic.
John was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Sharon, one of five children born to John J. and Freda Katherine Schenker Troy.
Jay was born and raised in Sharon and was a member of Sharon High Schools graduating class of 1952. He matriculated to Youngstown State University, where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He worked as a Safety and Fire Prevention Engineer in Ohio, California, Guam, Georgia, Michigan, New Jersey, and Louisiana. He was an active member in the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers, a Life Member in the National Fire Protection Association, former President of the California Society of Professional Engineers, member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He has been President of the Highland Lakes Homeowners Association and was active in local politics. Jay was an active member of St. Pauls Catholic Church, Westerville. He loved his family, his church, playing bridge, all things engineering and anything pertaining to politics.
A loving husband, father, brother, and friend too many, he will be sadly missed by all.
His wife, the former Joanne Witherow, whom he married on Nov. 22, 1956, survives at home.
He also leaves his two daughters, Susan Troy, at home, and Linda Troy-Burch and her husband, Eddie Burch of Grove City, Ohio and two sisters, Julie Troy of Newtown, Conn., and Bonnie Walsh of Temecula, Calif.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Thomas and Martin Troy.

Calling hours at noon on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, until the time of service at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Donald E. Berdis, pastor of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Anns, Church, Farrell, officiating.
Internment with his parents at St. Elizabeths Cemetery, Hermitage, Pa.
