STRUTHERS Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the Word In Action Ministry, 150 9th St., Campbell, for Mrs. Dannie Mae Smith, 85, who departed this life Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Northside Medical Center.
Mrs. Smith was born April 9, 1928, in Annemanie, Ala., a daughter of Sampson and Cora Watkins Davenport.
She was a graduate of Arlington Literary Industrial High School and attended Youngstown State University. She was a former member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church. Dannie enjoyed cooking, shopping, traveling, and attending family reunions. She was a self-employed caregiver for many, and provided a home and love for those she cared for. She was also owner/operator of the La Chic and Dannies Boutique. She had also been employed by LTV Steel (Youngstown Sheet and Tube).
Her husband, William, whom she married Nov. 18, 1950, passed away in 1996.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three sons, John Watkins of Detroit, William Smith Jr. (Patrilla Lightfoot) of Struthers and Frederick E. (Jacquelyn) Smith of Youngstown; a brother, Samuel Davenport of Detroit; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a special friend, Charlie Clyburn Jr. of Youngstown; and a host of loving family and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James Buster Watkins, Matthew Davenport, and Sampson Davenport Jr.; and two sisters, Sadie Lee Eldridge and Norma Lee Dock.
Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.
