YOUNGSTOWN – There will be a funeral service held on Saturday, March 30, at 10 a.m. at the Union Baptist Church for Mr. David L. Walden, 77, who departed this life Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at ValleyCare Northside Medical Center.

David L. Walden was born Aug. 24, 1935, in Youngstown, a son of Abraham and Victoria (Kitchen) Walden.

He was the owner and operator of Walden’s Restaurant, later called Belmont Eat Shop. In 1952, he was an amateur featherweight boxer in New York City. He went pro in 1954. His boxing career included matches at the historical Madison Square Garden.

He is survived by one son, Anthony (Francine) Walden of McDonough, Ga.; two daughters, Leola Durant and Evelyn Bailey of Youngstown; three brothers, Alvin (Jean) Walden and Lafay Walden of Youngstown, and Freddy Walden of Atlanta; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Irene Walden, Shirley Jones, and Delois Shannon; and a brother, Abram Walden Jr.

Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

Arrangements are being handled by the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home Inc.
