YOUNGSTOWN Sophia Tillie Tylasky, 91, passed away June 28, 2013, Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Tillie was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Youngstown; the daughter of Andrew and Julia (Pabis) Tylasky.
She was a graduate of South High School and attended Youngstown College. Tillie was a Secretary for United Steel Workers Local No. 1462 for 33 years.
She was a member of St. Columba Cathedral, St. Christine Senior Citizens, Catholic Alumni Club, and Volunteer at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She was also a member of the Retied Seniors Volunteer Program, where she received Presidential Awards from President George W. Bush and most recently from President Barack Obama for reaching 20,000 hours volunteered.
Tillie is survived by her brother, George S. Adams of Poland; and two sisters, JoAnne Kern of Austintown and Georgia Morris of Girard. She also leaves 20 nieces and nephews; along with several great-nieces and nephews.
There will be a funeral Mass held July 2, 2013, at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning at St. Columba Cathedral, with prayers at 9:30 a.m. at the McVean, Hughes & McClurkin Funeral Home prior to the church Mass.
There will be calling hours July 1, 2013, Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McVean, Hughes & McClurkin Funeral Home.
Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
