PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA. George J. Valcho, 78, died Friday, June 14, 2013, after a long battle with kidney disease.
George was born to the late George and Margaret Valcho on June 2, 1935, in Homestead, Pa.
He served proudly in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt and continued his career with the FAA as an air traffic controller for 39 years, retiring in 1994 from the Youngstown Municipal Airport. He earned his BA in Business Administration from Youngstown State University. George was a member of the Slovak Fraternity Jednota for over 50 years. He was an avid golfer, bowler, gardener and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
George was married to Josephine (Novak) for 54 years. They raised their family in Liberty Township before retiring to Florida.
George is also survived by his four children, Margaret Ann Gaydos of Wadsworth, George (Allison) Valcho of Benton, La., Jo Anne (Jeffrey) Mockbee of Bath and Matthew (Gaile) Valcho of Parkland, Fla. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, TJ, Megan, Mark, Joey, Matthew, Madi, Daniel, and Brady.
George and Josie were members of the San Pedro Catholic Church in North Port, Fla.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. at Thursday, June 2, 2013, at San Pedro.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Autism Speaks, www.autismspeaks.org.
