

YOUNGSTOWN Mrs. Irene Smith was born April 22, 1926, in Fairmont, W.Va., a daughter of the late Walter and Henrietta Russell.
Irene was a loving housewife who raised a family of five children and her grandson.
She was a Church Mother at the Early Morning Church of God in Christ for over 20 years. Irene gave willing of her time, doing community service for homeless women and children.
On Feb. 16, 2013, she departed this life at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center of natural causes.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Kenneth Smith; grandchildren, Ed and Bonita Starkey who were her caregivers, Erik Fields, Kenneth Smith Jr., Anita Dozier, Diane Whitney, Jahmilia Unuajefe, Jamal Nixon; dozens of great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Sonny Boy Smith; her children, Michael Smith, Charles Chuck Smith Jr., James Jimmy Smith and Diane Di Fletcher; and her siblings, Walter Russell, Henry Russell, Clarence Buck Russell, Edith Jones and Serreta Russell.
Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m.
