GIRARD Donald R. Houck, 91, of Shepherd of the Valley, Niles, passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 10, 2012, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Don was born July 9, 1921, in Kittanning, Pa., the son of Amos and Ethel (Glenn) Houck.
He retired from U.S. Steel in 1980 as a superintendent of maintenance, after 40 years with the company. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran.
He was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church of McDonald, a member of Youngstown Model Railroad Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Girard Senior Citizens and the American Legion.
Don married Kathleen OConnor on Nov. 11, 1942.
Don is survived by his wife, Kathleen; two sons, David and Linda Houck and Donald and Elaine Houck, all of McDonald; one daughter, Karen Houck of Houston; three brothers, Jack Houck of Cortland, Fred and Joan Houck of Florida, and Robert Houck of Pennsylvania; four sisters, Virginia and Ken Culp of California, Florence Houck of Florida, Elsie and Olin Race of Pennsylvania, and Edith and Ray Riggelman of Girard; four grandchildren, Kristen and Todd Flere of McDonald, Courtney and Bill Kunkel of McDonald, Stephanie and James Carmean of Westerville, and Donald Houck of Mayfield Heights; and two great-grandchildren, Brock Flere and Kylie Flere.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Griffith; and a brother, Richard Houck.
Calling hours will be on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McClurkin Funeral Home in Girard.
There will be funeral services on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at the McClurkin Funeral Home, where there will be viewing from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
