STRUTHERS Sophie Gerlach Nemes, 95, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 13, 2012, at Hospice House.
Sophie was born May 24, 1917, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Jacob and Theresa Wetek Gerlach, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a homemaker and worked as a nurses aide for the Youngstown Hospital Association at the former Southside Hospital in Youngstown.
Mrs. Nemes was a member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Youngstown.
Her husband, Charles Nemes, whom she married Aug. 15, 1940, passed away Aug. 10, 1999.
Sophie leaves her daughter, Beverly Nemes, with whom she shared her home; two sons, George Nemes of Struthers and David (Linda) Nemes of Boardman; a sister, Ann Philibin of Youngstown; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, a son, Charles Nemes; a grandson, Jason Nemes; two brothers, Andrew and John Gerlach; and two sisters, Olga Latura and Katherine Dubos, are deceased.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.
Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday, and continue at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, 526 W. Rayen Ave. in Youngstown.
Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown, where Sophie will be laid to rest next to her husband.
