LAURA A. SMITH

YOUNGSTOWN – A funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Laura A. Smith, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith departed this life on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Campus Health Care Center.

Mrs. Smith was born May 4, 1945, in Ashland, Ala., a daughter of O.C. and Ella Mae Adair Simmons, coming to the Valley many years ago.

She was formerly employed with St. Elizabeth Health Care Center as a surgical technician, retiring in 1998 after 29 years of loyal service. She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and served as a member of the missionary society. She was a licensed minister who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her caring spirit and warm personality will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, O.C. Smith, whom she married June 12, 1966; her loving sisters, Edna Faye Hill of Youngstown, Dollie Zackery, Lottie Jennings and Odera Garrett, all of Ashland; her brothers, Bennie and Raymond Simmons, both of Ashland; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joe L. Simmons.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, one hour prior to services at the church.

Interment will be in Tod Homestead Cemetery.
