JOHN JOSEPH STEPHENS

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Joseph John Stephens, 83, was the son of Thomas and Mary Hanna Stephens; loving husband of 60 years to Anna L. Roberts Stephens; father of Nicholas, John Jr. (deceased) and Thomas (deceased); father-in-law to Lisa Kunstadter; devoted grandfather to Zack and Ricky; brother of Dr. Thomas Stephens, Amelia Latessa (deceased) and Rose Richmond (deceased); attentive uncle to his nieces and nephews; and cousin to many in the Youngstown area.

He was born Feb. 16, 1928, and was a member of the East High, Class of 1945, earned degrees from the University of Kentucky and Youngstown State University, and attended VMI during his military service (Army) from 1945 to 1947.

He worked at U.S. Steel, was an early consulting partner at Arthur Andersen, president of Kleinert’s Inc., group vice president at International Paper, and president and CEO of Roseburg Forest Products. He was also a member of the board of Western Bank of Oregon. After his retirement, he was involved in many philanthropic endeavors and civic groups such as Kiwanis and Rotary Club, where he was president of the Bronxville, N.Y. chapter.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, cff.org, or St. Maron Parish Education Foundation, 1555 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown, OH 44511.

A gathering of family and friends will take place at 9:30 a.m. and a service at 11:30 a.m. at St. Maron Church on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012.

He will be interred next to his two sons at Calvary Cemetery.
