JOSEPH W. ALLEGRETTE

BOARDMAN – Joseph W. Allegrette passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, Feb. 7, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman.

Joe was born Aug. 31, 1921, in Youngstown, the son of Joseph W. Allegrette and Bridget (Maino) Allegrette.

At the age of four, he moved to Gary, Ind. with his family. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in mechanical engineering.

As World War II began, he enlisted in the Navy and earned the rank of Lieutenant, serving in the Pacific until he was discharged on Jan. 9, 1946.

He married the love of his life, the former Janet (Kalinowski) on Nov. 27, 1944.

After completing his military service, he was employed as a mechanical engineer at GATX for 31 years. He also owned and operated Andes Candies in Hammond, Ind. and a farm, where he raised black angus cattle, corn, and soy beans.

In 1969, he moved to Hermitage Pa., after being transferred to GATX in Masury. While in Hermitage, he owned and operated his second farm in Transfer, Pa.

Joe leaves his loving family, the best dad to daughters, Jody Naccarato of Rolling Prairie Ind., Connie Mattson (Dean Chengelis) of Boardman, with whom he made his home, and daughter-in-law, Mary Allegrette of Rolling Prairie. He also leaves nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Teresa Becke.

Joe was a kind and loving person that was loved by all that knew him.

“He taught us many lessons and loved each of us in his special way. We were so lucky to have him in our lives. His memories will live forever through the stories and pictures we’ve collected.”

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Janet; son, Joseph; brothers, James and Frank; sisters, Ange Zack and Mary Strudas; granddaughter, Nicole Marie “Niki” Naccarato; and a great-grandson, Joseph William Allegrette.

Services will be held at St. John Kanty Church in Rolling Prairie on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at 10 a.m.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Local arrangements are being handled by the Shriver-Allison-Courtley-Weller-King Funeral Home.
