FARRELL, PA. A life of victory home-going celebration will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Second Missionary Baptist Church for Mr. Edgar James McKenzie, 86, who went peacefully home to be with the Lord at 8:41 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at his home with loving family by his side.
Mr. McKenzie was born Oct. 3, 1924, in Thompson No. 2, Pa. to Samuel Escue and Georgia Anna Thomas McKenzie. He was the sixth of 10 children.
He attended Brownsville High School. He was a truck driver for more than 40 years, driving for several companies. He had a special close relationship with former Cooper Jarrett employees.
Edgar enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and driving the Big Rigs. He had a special love for children. He also loved to fellowship with the men of his church and having coffee at McDonalds with former Cooper Jarrett co-workers. He was a devoted member and deacon at the Second Missionary Baptist Church in Farrell, where he was loved and respected by his church family.
He leaves to forever hold dear in their hearts, his loving wife of 21 years, the former Bobbie Jennings; two daughters, Gloria (Charles) Meadows of Penn Hills, Pa. and Alice Faye McKenzie of San Diego; one stepdaughter, Sherry (Erick) Wilson Sr. of Euless, Texas; a stepson, Vincent (Donna) Jennings of San Antonio; two sisters, Mildred Stith of Leckrone of Pa. and Thelma Dickinson of Brownsville, Pa.; son-in-law, Michael Sanders Sr. of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Charles Meadows Jr., Michael Sanders Jr., Jewel Lynn Sanders and Michael McKenzie; step-grandchildren, David, Sandra, Xavier, Vincent Jr., Ebony and Trinity, all of San Antonio, twins Erick and SheRay of Euless; two great-grandchildren, Charles Meadows III and Tamira Meadow, of Hampton, Va.; three god-children, Sheila Murray, Sharmayne Bolling and Christopher Howell; his best and devoted friend, Robert Barlow of Hermitage, Pa.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marilyn (who passed away 9-4-2010); brothers, Wilbert, Harold, Lloyd and Luther; two sisters, Evelyn Brown and Hylda Payne; a grandson, Brandon; and his first wife, Alice.
Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church.
His final resting place will be at Morefield Cemetery, Rt. 18 in Hermitage. Officiating Clergy will be the Rev. Russell Penn and the Eulogist will be the Rev. Thomas Bolling, Second Missionary Baptist Church, 1138 Spearman Ave. in Farrell.
