AKRON Military services will be held on a future date for Edward Russell Ortopan, 82, formerly of Poland. He passed away Thursday morning at Wyant Woods in Akron.
Mr. Edward R. Ortopan was born on July 26, 1928, in Akron, a son of Joseph and Verna Jane Sommers Ortopan.
He was a member of the 1946 Class of Kenmore High School, where he was Senior Class Vice President.
Edward was U.S. Army veteran of the 40th Infantry in the Korean War conflict, where he served as a Master Sergeant.
He enjoyed golfing, gardening, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving him are two sons, Michael (Claudia) Ortopan of Granada Hills, Calif., and Edward Ortopan of Columbus; two daughters, Stephanie (Gerry) Milo of Diamond and Christine (John) Tancer of Youngstown.; a sister, Dorothea (Bud) Dore of Louisiana; brothers, LeRoy Ortopan of California and John Ortopan of Arizona; grandchildren, Sean, Amy, Bryce, Zachary, Claudia, Audrey and Aaron; and his wife of almost 30 years, Kathryn Ortopan, and her daughter, Jennifer (Mark) Stevens.
Preceding him in death besides his parents are two brothers, Joseph and Robert; one sister, Ruby Brown; and one grandchild, Samantha Rae Ortopan.
Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Prentice Funeral Home in Akron.
