WEST VIEW, PA. Donald A. Duda passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, Feb. 8, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Hospice House in Wexford, Pa. after a courageous battle with cancer.
Don, Dan to his friends and Par to his grandchildren, was born July 27, 1935, in Pittsburgh, a son of William and Martha (Speer) Duda.
He was a 1953 graduate of Millvale High School, and in that same year, enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served in the Korean War, where he fulfilled his entire two-year tour. Later, he received the Armys Cold War Service Recognition Award.
He was employed by Retail Credit Company in Pittsburgh and, in 1968, moved with his family to Canfield, where he worked as a medical claims investigator for Equitable Life Assurance Company. Years later, he returned to Pittsburgh, where he served as a regional claims director for Equitable and married Barbara (Phillips) in 1983.
Don was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his many grandchildren. He dedicated nearly two decades of service as a committee member of Boy Scout Troop No. 25, Canfield.
Don is survived by his wife, Barbara; his twin sister, Doris Ann (Frank) Perl of Hamburg, N.Y.; his children, Barbara (Mark) Chimel of Riva, Md., Shari Carlozzi of Canfield, Donald Jr. (Carla) of Berlin Center and Nancy (Mark) Ramunno of Canfield; stepdaughter, Cheryl (Jim) Pfeiffer of Charlotte, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert (Fran) of Phelan, Calif.
Visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Schellhaas Funeral Home, 388 Center Ave., West View, Pa. 15229.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dons name to Boy Scout Troop No. 25, c/o 8091 Blue Heron, Canfield, OH 44406.
