PULASKI, PA. Janet Mada Houston Erskine, 88, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at her home in Pulaski.
She was born June 23, 1922, in New Castle, Pa., the daughter of the late Edwin and Mada (Moorehead) Houston.
She married Robert Mound Erskine on March 14, 1947, he died Dec. 27, 1980.
Mrs. Erskine was a Registered Nurse at Jameson Memorial Hospital for several years. She was an Army Nurses Corp. veteran of World War II, serving in Okinawa as a 1st Lieutenant with the 82nd Field Hospital. For her service she received the Bronze Star Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with one battle star. Mrs. Erskine was a member of the Mahoning Presbyterian Church and was the 1st Woman Elder at the church. She was a past moderator of the Womens Presbytery and the Synod. Mrs. Erskine was also a member of the Wilmington Quilt Guild.
She is survived by three children, David H. Erskine and wife Sally of Pulaski, Karen E. Erskine of Western Colorado and Robert N. Erskine and wife Barbie of Columbus; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Houston and an infant sister.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Ave. on today, April 17, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Monday, April 18, 2011, from 10 to 11 a.m.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 18, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Mahoning Presbyterian Church on Sky Hill Road in Pulaski. The Rev. Robert Dayton of Mahoning Presbyterian Church will be officiating.
Burial will be at the Mahoning Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Pulaski.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Mahoning Presbyterian Church on Sky Hill Road in Pulaski, or the American Heart Association.
