BOARDMAN A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Shawn Conoboy at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles Church for Walter J. Evans, 92, who passed away Sunday morning.
Walter was born May 4, 1918, in Youngstown, a son of John and Blanche Iwanicki.
Walter spent much of his life as a carpenter and then as a building inspector for the State of Ohio. He was a fixture behind the bar at the Colonial House on Market Street in its hey day. He was most proud of serving John F. Kennedy at drink during his campaign stop.
An active member of St. Charles Church , he enjoyed working the summer festivals at the church. He enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City, visiting area in-laws, bowling and playing cards with his wife, the former Lucille A. McKeown, whom he married Nov. 29, 1952 , and she passed away Aug. 9, 1991.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter, Bonnie (James) Mealy of New Middletown; a son, Bruce (Jan) Evans of Madison, Miss.; and two grandsons, Michael Mealy of New Middletown and David Mealy of Medina.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Frank Iwanicki; and a sister, Stella Iwanicki.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles Church. Internment will be at Calvary Cemetery next to his beloved wife.
