YOUNGSTOWN There will be services at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the Rising Star Baptist Church, 2943 Wardle Ave., for Alberta Jean Ross Bevly, 62, who passed away at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
She was born Jan. 23, 1949, in Youngstown, to the union of Reverend Albert Ross Sr. and Dorothy Laverne Dillard Ross (deceased).
Alberta was a graduate of The Rayen School.
Alberta worked for a short period of time for Ohio Bell Telephone Co. and she retired from General Electric after 30 years of service. Alberta was a faithful member of the New Grace Missionary Baptist Church. She served as the church Treasurer and a member of both the Trustee and Missionary Boards. She was a very generous person with her time and thoughtful in her giving. She supported many organizations, especially the Lupus Foundation of America in Pittsburgh.
Alberta loved to decorate and remodel her home. She frequently crocheted blankets for many family members and friends. An avid traveler, she loved going to new places and shopping for new things.
Alberta leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband of 19 years, Richard Bevly of Youngstown; her father, Reverend Albert (Winnie Greene) Ross Sr.; three children, Dorothy (James) Crosby, Rodney Johnson of Youngstown and David (Mariama) Johnson of Cincinnati; two sisters, Priscilla A. Jones of Gary, Ind. and Alicia E. (Ernest) Carey; two brothers, Albert (Charlotte) Ross Jr. and George (Julia) Ross; two stepchildren, Ariss Bevly and LaRhaun Ferguson; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five god sisters and god brothers, Henrietta Williams, Evelyn (James) Pierce, LePear (Linda) Smith, Elaine (Lionel) Sledge, Vernon Smith; and host of nieces, nephews, family, extended family and very good friends.
A special thanks to the Donaldson and Steverson family. Also, we would be remiss if her doggy companion, Kasper, was not mentioned.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy LaVerne Ross and her aunt, Hilda Ross.
Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the Rising Star Baptist Church 2943 Wardle Ave.
Arrangements are being handled by the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home.
