YOUNGSTOWN On Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, Rose Marie Echols, exchanged this life for eternal rest after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 9, 1941, to the late John and Mattie Murray in Youngstown, and was lovingly raised in the home with seven children.
She married the late Frankie Echols Sr. on May 16, 1963.
As the matriarch of the family, she worked several jobs. She was employed at South Side Hospital, the Salvation Army and Goodwill Industries. She was also a foster mother for the State of Ohio.
Rose had previously been a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church, Tabernacle Baptist Church, and presently a member of the Christian Revival and Discipleship Center.
Mrs. Echols will be remembered for opening her home to many. She has shown to those whose lives she touched the love that one person can give to so many. Roses greatest memory of sharing will be her soul food Sundays, held at her home yearly.
Rose cherished her grandchildren. She reared many of them. Her legacy for each was to serve the Lord and to acknowledge the power of education.
She leaves to mourn a loving family, son, Johnny Murray Echols (Kathy Boykins); daughters, Tracy and Katina Echols; brother, James June Frazier; her extended family of brothers and sisters, Hughes Campbell (Katie) of Chicago, John Campbell of Youngstown and Dr. Mary Miller of Gary, Ind.; her devoted and loving companion, Samuel Jennings; daughter-in-law, Louise Echols of Youngstown; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She reared extended family, namely, Carolyn Taltoan, Rodrick Taltoan, Tyesha Taltoan and Harold Brooks.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; children, Frankie Echols Jr. and Reemer Echols; sister, Elizabeth Rivers; brothers, Thomas and James Pewee Murray; grandchildren, Michael Echols, Dominique Daniels Lynch and Lashana Echols; and a great-granddaughter, Marshaya Echols.
Friends may call Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden. Funeral Services will follow at 1 p.m.
