AUSTINTOWN Private memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church for Helen Marie Sammartino Acri, 91, who died Saturday morning at her home.
Helen Marie was born March 25, 1919, in Youngstown and was the daughter of the late Carmine and Custoda (DePrimm) Sammartino.
She had attended East High School before marrying her beloved William. She enjoyed cooking, reading, planting flowers, and interior design, with whom she helped many in their homes.
Helen will always be remembered by her husband of 73 years, William Acri, whom she married June 17, 1937.
She leaves two beloved daughters, Donna Jean (Robert) Greco of Hubbard and Lois (Richard) Ozuna of Las Vegas, and her beloved son, James Alan Acri of Austintown, all whom she loved dearly.
She leaves behind her grandchildren, Anthony (Susan) Greco, Helen Marie (Mark) Semanovich and Charlene (Michael) DePalma, all of Hubbard, Anthony (Roula) Pasquine of Henderson, Nev., Debra (Mark) Chopp of Austintown, and James (Lori) Pasquine of Poland. She also leaves 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Armond, Fred, Anthony, Robert, Alex and Romeo; and a beautiful sister, Edith DeNiro.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, material contributions may be sent to Grace Hospice or St. Jude Foundation of Memphis, Tenn.
The Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
