AUSTINTOWN - Milan Kacar, 87, died Monday, July 19, 2010, at his daughters residence.
Mr. Kacar was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Youngstown, a son of Steve and Mary Zvara Kacar.
He was a World War II Army veteran, where he served in the Ardennes, the Rhineland and in Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, ATO Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
He had worked for U.S. Steel for 37 1/2 years as an Open Hearth operator, prior to his retirement in 1980.
Mr. Kacar enjoyed going to casinos and playing cards. For the past two years, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Jennifer Weingart, whom he loved to tease and make laugh.
His wife, the former Eleanor DeChalk, whom he married Nov. 3, 1950, died Sept. 2, 1983.
He is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Weingart of Canfield, Renee (Marty) Koliser of Austintown and Laura (Mark) Zigarevich of Palm Harbor, Fla.; three sons, Stanley (Anita) Kacar of Butler, Pa., Allen (Sherry) Kacar of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Milan (Joyce) Kacar of Gallatin, Tenn.; one sister, Betsy Thompson of Hubbard; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Stanley Kacar; a sister, Rose Taylor; two infant brothers; and a son-in-law, Michael J. Weingart.
Funeral services will be private.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Kacars name to MVI Hospice Care, 4891 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, OH 44505.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
