The Poland Interact Club celebrated Earth Day by cleaning up around the high school.

According to student Interact Club member Sophia Sainato the group had planned to clean the area since the winter.

“When the Interact Club was first founded this school year, one of the first ideas presented was to clean up the high school campus, which unfortunately is known to be littered on a daily basis,” Sainato said.

After school on April 25, Interact Club members gathered together to clean up the area.

Students cleaned trash and other debris from the area around Poland Seminary High School and in the parking lot.

“It’s the area that we see every single day,” Sainato said.

The Interact Club is a new organization at Poland, beginning just last year.

The club currently has more than 30 members and is focused on community out reach and involvement.

Along with the Earth Day clean up students have planned a variety of service projects for the year.

Students have planned a book drive, collecting books from high school students to donate to local organizations.

The club will also be joining up with the high school’s student council to clean up Clingan Road in May.

“We have a lot of big projects planned,” said club advisor Chris Martin. “The students are very dedicated to the group.”

He explained that the students are responsible for coming up with the ideas for the group projects themselves.

“They are very dedicated, I have students coming into my office every day with new ideas,” Martin said.
