What: Join us at Jubilee Gardens to learn about getting started with a vegetable garden – from planting to weed care and disease control. A new tour/session takes place throughout Youngstown every Monday during summer.

PLANTING PERENNIALS

When: Wednesday, 6 p.m.

What: Trumbull County master gardener volunteers 2019 free garden programs in the garden.

Where: OSU Extension Office, 520 W. Main St., Suite 1, Cortland.

Cost: Free, bring a lawn chair.

BOTANICAL MORNINGS

When: Friday, 9 to 10 a.m.

What: Discover the progress of seasons at Fellows Riverside Gardens.

Where: Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown.

RECREATIONAL HIKE

When: July 3, 9 a.m.

What: Join our volunteer-led recreational hike and walk at your own pace. Easy, 2 or 4 miles.

Where: Kiosk at the MetroParks Bikeway Trailhead at MetroParks Farm, Route 46, Canfield.

PADDLING BASICS

When: July 6, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

What: Give kayaking a try with a little help from our kayak volunteers. Learn how to warm up, enter and leave a kayak, and spend some time practicing basic paddling techniques.

Where: Lake Glacier Boathouse, West Glacier Drive, Youngstown.

Details: Register/pay at James L. Wick Recreation Area by July 4.

Cost: $10 for Mahoning County Residents; $13 NR.

SERENITY ON THE WATER

When: July 9, 6 to 8 p.m.

What: Enjoy an evening on the water with naturalist Bill Gilmour. Age and experience restrictions may apply.

Where: East Newport Boat Launch, East Newport Drive, Youngstown

Cost: $12 for Mahoning County Residents; $15 NR.

LITTLE EXPLORERS CLUB

When: July 12, 8 to 9:30 p.m.

What: Join the club as we explore and enjoy the wonders of summer. We’ll catch lightning bugs, become beautiful butterflies and find out what the forest knows.

Where: Kiosk at the MetroParks Bikeway Trailhead at MetroParks Farm, Route 46, Canfield.

Cost: $5 a class; $12 for the series.
