Genova’s sweet 16 helps Poland defeat Girard 47-34

On Dec. 12, the Poland Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team defeated the Girard Indians 47-34. Poland played its best opening quarter of the early season by taking a 17-7 lead, with JP Genova torching the nets with nine early points. Girard rallied to cut Poland’s lead to 21-19 at the half. Genova re-ignited Poland’s offense in the third, as he finished with a team-high 16 markers, and the Bulldogs took a 39-25 lead going into the final frame. Noah Huda meshed 11 points for the winners. Bryce Barringer contributed eight points, while Luke Generalovich and Matteo Melone tallied three points apiece. Ben Harrell, Carson Maurer and Ryan Nemeth rounded out the scoring effort with two points each. For the fourth time in five games this season, Poland’s well-balanced offensive attack had a different leading scorer (Generalovich twice, Barringer, Huda and Genova). The Bulldogs win moves their record to 5-0 on the year.

Poland eighth-grade boys roll over South Range 43-13

On Dec. 10, the Poland Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team welcomed the South Range Raiders to Northeast 8 conference play with a resounding 43-13 home court win. Poland took a 10-4 first quarter lead with Noah Huda scoring half of the Bulldogs early points. The Bulldogs put the clamps on the Raiders defensively in the second, only allowing two points and taking a 19-6 lead into the half. Poland continued their outstanding play by taking a 35-10 lead into the last quarter. The Bulldogs well-balanced scoring attack was led by Huda with nine points. Luke Generalovich added seven points while Bryce Barringer, Carson Maurer and Jacob Allsopp each tallied six points. JP Genova chipped in five points while Ryan Nemeth rounded out the scoring with four points.

Lady Bulldogs basketball defeats Jefferson

The Poland Lady Bulldogs basketball team defeated Jefferson with a score of 85-37 on Dec. 20. Leading scorers for Poland were Sarah Bury (20) and Kat Partika (15).
