Little Explorers Club: Tracks

When: Thursday, 10-11 a.m.

What: Explore and enjoy the wonders of winter. This month we’ll discover whose track is that. Story, craft and outdoor adventure included.

Where: Ford Nature Center, 840 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown.

Cost: $5 a class

Details: Ages 3 to 6 plus adult. Register/pay at Ford Nature Center by Tuesday.

Owl Prowl

When: Friday, 7-8:30 p.m.

What: Join in to demystify the lives of owls and go on an exploration with naturalist Bill Gilmour. Remember that patience and silence are essential when prowling for owls.

Where: Golf Overflow Parking Lot, West Golf Drive, Boardman.

Cost: Free

Details: Dress for the weather. Moderate difficulty, 2 miles.

Yum, Yum Chocolate

When: Next Saturday, 11 a.m. to noon

What: Join us to learn where chocolate comes from in the world; make and taste some yummy treats. Extra candies will go home with you.

Where: MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Canfield.

Cost: $5 for Mahoning County residents, $6 NR.

Details: Ages 8 to 12. Register/pay at MetroParks Farm by Monday.

Lily Pond in Winter

When: Next Saturday, 11 a.m. to noon

What: Visit this very popular spot during its “off-season” to see what happens with the wildlife during winter.

GREAT BACKYARD BIRD COUNT

When: Feb. 15

What: Join Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center staff and volunteers to count birds visiting the feeders outside the visitors center. This fun, educational activity contributes data to one of the world’s biggest citizen science projects.
