The Austintown library hosted a paint along Halloween themed event for adults on Oct. 23.

Librarian Andrea Zupcsan hosted the event, taking patrons step by step through the process of making a pumpkin painting.

Zupcsan has a minor in fine arts from Youngstown State University and said that she has been interested in painting since she was young.

“That was my original plan, this is my stuff this is what I do on the side,” Zupcsan said.

Eight people attended the event with full supplies provided by the library.

“I usually do a simple painting and they can just paint along with it,” Zupcsan said.

She said that unlike other sip and paint events, Zupcsan said that she likes to encourage creativity in the groups she runs.

“It annoys me when people paint the exact same thing,” Zupcsan said. “The point is to kind of figure out how to paint.”

She said that anyone can paint, and that the only thing that sets people apart is how much they practice.

“I would say if you don’t think you should paint you just haven’t done it enough,” Zupcsan said. “People think its a skill and its not.”

Zupcsan said that she has gained her painting abilities simply by having done it since she was young, and that anyone can grow their abilities through events like this.

“People think I have a skill for painting and its just cause I have been doing it for a long time. I have adults who say ‘this is my second time I have ever painted’ and think they aren’t good at it. It’s just that they have only done it twice,” Zupcsan said.
