Youngstown cops arrest man in insect-infested West Side home

YOUNGSTOWN — Police had to go inside a Manhattan Avenue home reports said that was infested with fleas and cockroaches to arrest a man for domestic violence after he refused to come out.

Officers were called to the home about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday by a woman who said she was drinking with Michael Welsh, 45, who lists the West Side home as his address. When she asked for another beer, however, Welsh started drinking it instead of giving it to her.

The woman then grabbed a broomstick and tried to knock the beer out of Welsh’s hands and he punched her in the face, reports said.

Reports said officers did not want to go inside the house because of the insects, but Welsh would not come out, so they had to go in and take him into custody. He was booked into the Mahoning County jail and is expected to be arraigned later today in municipal court.
